Homework will be set on Monday and it is due to be completed and handed in by the following Monday:
Maths
Times Table Rockstars will be set in order to help with x-tables practise each week, pupil results in moving up their personal league table will be celebrated each week.
Reading
In order to further develop reading comprehension across the school we will be setting an online reading activity on Read Theory each week. Pupils will be completing the preliminary quiz in class to ensure the homework is accurately set to their level. Read Theory works on the basis of increasing the challenge of questions when appropriate and supporting, scaffolding or simplifying questions as needed. Each week the pupils will be able to track their progress as they see their points increase on the site.
As before, we continue to ask pupils to read for 20 minutes at home each night and record this in their home diary. This can be in the form of them recording the pages or time spent reading or as a parent/carer comment.
Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling
SPAG.com. This is a website on which we will set weekly activities for the pupils to complete at home related to their learning.
The Spelling Shed; we will set spelling lists appropriate to individual pupils related to their own targets, topic word lists or Key Stage spelling lists. The site offers a variety of fun games and activities to practise these words. In class they will then be given the opportunity to use these within their work to test their recall.
Topic based work
Topic homework will be set each half term and full term holiday. The purpose of this homework is to enthuse the pupils about the topic they are about to start the following half term. Occasionally additional topic homework may be set where it would be beneficial to the pupils.
Homework Club
As in previous years, any pupils who cannot complete their homework for any reason will be invited to homework club with their class teacher to complete it to ensure that they do not fall behind their peers. During these clubs, support will be available as needed.
Home Diary
Each week the pupils will be provided with time to complete their home diary in school. This will include recording their homework and completing a short paragraph about a book they have read. As a school we will use the home diary to record any reading completed with the pupils, as well as any comments or messages that may need to go home. We will send the home diary home each night with pupils and we ask that you please ensure that they return to school each morning. You are encouraged to write comments about any reading at home in these diaries and any messages for the teacher so that your child can share these with us.
